We have a system that we added some SCSI disk to, and was copying data to when after about 2 hours the server locked up..
I have not been able to reboot the server, or to reboot into single user mode successfully, the server starts the load of the kernel, then locks up again....
Is there a way to boot the server into some sort of maintenance mode, or from CDROM and then mount file systems to try and find what is causing the problem ??

The server is running 11.11 and is PA-RISC server.... It is also using Veritas VXVM for the OS and NOT LVM.....

I didn't try the previous kernel, not thinking it could be a kernel problem as a kernel hasn't been created sine the last maintenance patches were applied about 3 months ago..

Does it do a crash dump?

What model server?

Boot with vmunix -vm!

Then use vx_emerg_start to start the diskgroup. It might be necessary to clean a volume/group state with vxmend etc.

My 2 cents,
Armin

PS: Please assign points if you find answers useful!

When I went to rebuild the server I noticed that the DVDrom drive was not showing up in the boot search...
Ended up finding the cable for the drive was broken, replaced cable, and I was actually able to boot the server up without having to restore.....
