CPU Nice value is hight almost 85%

Hello,

I have "ia64 hp superdome server SD64B" I checked cpu performance via glance utility; I found nice current value is almost 85% so that overall cpu performance is 98%. any comment why nice value is high?

What was the name of the process?

It would be helpful to know such things as that, the OS, how modified the system is since installation, general purpose of the server to assist you.

Actually it is good to have user mode cpu of %85. You paid for it and you are using it. Is it normal to use %85? Please look at the processes using CPUs...

I assume you mean from the CPU REPORT screen in glance?

It would be interesting to see the amount of CPU that nice'd processes are using. The following command should show processes with non-default nice values (default nice value nis 20)

UNIX95= ps -eo comm,nice,pcpu | awk ' $2!=20 ' | sed 1d | sort -rn -k 3,3

You can ignore processes with a nice value less than 20 (theere should only be a few system processes with this value) - look for those with nice values over 20... the list is also sorted by CPU utilisation as well...
