CDE Configuration

Hello Everyone,

Here's the issue.

solman:/#swlist -l product | grep CDE
CDE B.11.31 HP-UX CDE User Interface
solman:/#ll /usr/dt
total 16
dr-xr-xr-x 3 bin bin 96 Oct 6 17:24 config
dr-xr-xr-x 3 bin bin 8192 Oct 28 16:52 lib

As you can see, I've installed CDE on my 11.31 box, swlist. But, you can see there are no files under /usr/dt/bin, which is where the start scripts and everything should be.

I've been at this for over a week now, i've even re-installed CDE but to no avail. I would great appreciate your help.

Shalom,

Check /etc/rc.config.d/xfs

Make sure the font server is configured to start. It is NOT configured to start by the default 11.31 installation.

/sbin/init.d/xfs start

Steven,

Thanks for you response but the problem isn't that it won't start, it's that it seems as if nothing is installed. Swlist says CDE is installed but I don't see any of the files or directories that should have been installed with it.

Under directory /usr/dt/bin (which is where I've read the start files should be and everything else pertaining to CDE) there's nothing.

xfs is not needed to run CDE. xfs is a font server to server up fonts to remote clients, it is not needed locally.

Check the swinstall logs to see if there were any errors with the CDE installation. The empty directories are left behind after an swremove and maybe the swinstall never happened because of errors.

What filesets do you see? This is what I see on a 11.31 system with /usr/dt/bin in place:

The CDE is not installed, the CDE.CDE-SHLIBS is only one of the CDE filesetes.

What did you use as the source depot when you tried the CDE installation? What media did you use?

so look at what you actually had on the DVD:

swlist -l fileset -d -s /cdrom CDE

(obviously you'll need to change /cdrom for wherever you have your DVD mounted)

do you see all the filesets there, or are some on the other DVDs?

Not all filesets were installed because other parts were in DVD 2/3.

But I got it now...
