Create New Array -- SAS1068

Hi

System: rx2660 Itanimum server
2x HDD 70GB, bay 7 and 8

I want to use the embedded RAID controller to make an mirroring setup of my disks. HDD in bay 8 contain an hpux operating system, this have been backuped with ignite, planning to restore this after mirroring config is finished.

The problem is to set the HDDs to Primary and Secondary in drvcfg, from the window:

Both disks has an gray-out [No] in the RAID Disk colum, means:
• The device does not meet the minimum requirements for use in an IM array.
• The device is not large enough to mirror existing data on the primary drive.
• This disk has been selected as the Hot Spare for the IM array.

Minimum requirement? Both disks are 70GB.
I dont want to mirror the existing data.
None disks are HotSpares.

Any suggestions?

Use the arrow key to go to the first "no" filed and toggle to "yes". Do this on both disks and select "c" for create array.

If one is already hotspare, delete this setting.

Because of the gray-out, I'am not able to change to Yes.

In the manual, I find the three points listed above what could cause this gray-out...

Can you toggle between "yes" and "no"? Maybe this is done with RETURN when the value is under the cursor.

Important: you need to select 2 disks!

I have been followed the prosedure you referring to, stopping at 5.

Pressing the + button helped alot...
Then say D to delete the drive, now we have the Yes :-)

I did this yesterday and I always need to remember when to use what key ...

BTW, I was wondering if I could create the mirrored pair with 1 disk first, mirror the stand-alone disk to the RAID and add this disk to the RAID later - no way.

The array creation needs 2 drives.

My intention was to work around a new installation or restore with just 2 disks - with 3 disks this will work.
