What model server? HP-UX 11.31 will run on a very selected number of servers.

Also, if I recall correctly, there is no direct upgrade path from 11.11 to 11.31. You must either go 11.11 to 11.23 to 11.31 if you are using update-ux, or you must do a cold install of 11.31.

You should also verify with Oracle that version 9i of the DB is supported with 11.31. It may not be, I'm not sure.

You CANNOT upgrade directly from 11iv1 to 11iv3.
You either upgrade from 11iv1 to 11iv2, and THEN from 1iv2 to 11iv3, or you cold install.
I recommend the last option

Hi Binu:

> When I discussed with customer they told me that they dont want to loose the data . If I do the cold install the entire data will loose ..right . IF i go for upgrade please tell me steps

A cold-install will only eradicate the vg00 volume group. Hopefully this volume group only contains the standard HP-UX logical volumes. Then you can simply 'vgimport' non-vg00 volume groups after your cold-install.

All this said, you cannot directly move from from 11.11 to 11.31 unless you cold-install. To use the 'update-ux' (non-cold-install) methodology to reach 11.31 from 11.11, you must step through 11.23.

Regards!

...JRF...

Before moving to9 11.31, I would have your Oracle DBAs look for 9i support on 11.31. If your version of Oracle won't work or is not supported on 11.31, then your job is much easier as there is nothing to do.

As far as Oracle data, if your system was designed correctly, all the Oracle data files will be on a separate volume group. These volume groups are not affected by a cold install vof vg00. Just use vgimport to bring them back.

However, Oracle code will have to be reinstalled.

Hello Binu.
As I recall Oracle 9i is not supported on 11.31.

For O.S. fbackup non O.S. information, or if you have a 3rd. party application for backups do a full backup of all your files and then restore after upgrade.

As someone said above vgexport/vgimport is also a choice.

Have a nice day.
