Hi

I have a new 11.31 machine (rx2660)

Users have complained about not being able to log in over xmas. I investigated and found there were no more available processes. (nproc=4200)

It seems that the offending software is "dasprovider" It has been respawing. OR stm has been respawning and kicking of the dasprovider processes.

# ps -ef | grep dasprovider | wc -l
2689

ALSO

# ps -ef | grep "/usr/sbin/stm/ui/bin/stm -c" | wc -l
1347

I managed to increase nproc to 4800 to allow investigations. So before I reboot to get rid of these processes is there anything I should look for/check?

Thanks
Mark

I've killed all of the dasprovider and stm processes. They are slowly respawning.

7 new stm and 12 dasprovider processes started in the last hour.

It is the dasprovider that is kicking off the stm processes.

This error was possibly due to an incorrect entry in the hosts file.
