      <description>Hello,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;we need to change password for more than 50 hosts. i have encrypted password. &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;i can propagate with usermod command. but it is giving error, user already in use.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;critical application is running on these hosts. &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I can use force option. &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;my question---&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;is it safe? will it affect application since application is using this user account? &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Regards&lt;BR /&gt;Shameem</description>

      <description>if all you are doing is modifying the password, it is safe... the user won't be kicked out&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;this check is there for when you are doing something that could really effect a user logged in (changing the UID or GID for example).&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;so as long as the application isn't logging in to the system using a cached copy of the old password somewhere you are fine...&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;HTH&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Duncan</description>
