If you have firewall (proxy) in your network and you want to ftp to remote network or internet sites then the proxy must be opnened for the requird IP (of ftp.xyz.com)and TCP-port21.

Most of the internet servers provide anonyms ftp service.

-Vijay

Animesh,

What kind of proxy server are you using? They behave differently. A Raptor firewall can be difficult, especially the form and syntax. A Raptor uses this format:

ftp raptorfirewall
anonymous@somemailserver usernameonraptor
passwd4anonymous
passwd4gateway

live free or die
harry

Hi Animesh,

As Harry says, it depends on the proxy server / firewall your company used. You need to check with the folks that admin your Internet connection.

The format I had to use at a previous job was:

ftp proxy_server_address
anonymous@ftp.itrc.hp.com.com
password (generally email address for anonymous ftp)

In the above, anonymous@ftp.itrc.hp.com is the "user" name and "password" would be the password for anonymous at ftp.itrc.hp.com

Darrell
