Hi Torsten,

The messages, that i wrote in my last mail, are messages that i saw while the server tried to boot up and the selftests stopped at that messages. Then i had to reboot it by myself.

That is the first situation. The second is that the server boots up correctly after an unexpectely reboot.

How can i check if a fan is going to fail or maybe a ram??

If there are no entries in /etc/shutdownlog that correspond to the times that the server has shutdown/rebooted then you may have power problems of some sort.

If the system simply loses power somehow then there is no time to shutdown the OS and write entries to shutdownlog.

Is the system attached to a UPS? If so, check the UPS logs and see if there are any power outages. If it is not attached to a UPS I would do that first and see if that helps.

Reboot: (by hpsce3!root)
08:28 Thu Dec 06, 2012. Reboot: (by hpsce3!root)

I had restarted the server, because i had some changes in netconf file.

Best regards,

Spyros

While booting up you see the various selftests in the front panel. As long as you don't see FLT all is good.
But if the system goes down unexpectely, e.g. because of a failed fan, the message may help.

I repeat the example of a failed fan, because this could be a likely reason. Let's say a fan is going to fail, some rounds per minute less and it is considered to be failed, some rpm more and it is ok for the system.

Since fans are not redundant, system will go down.

The messages you saw may point to the system board directly or a slot. First try to re-seat the I/O cards in their slots. If the server goes down or hang again, note down the messages in the front panel.

Hi Spyros,

I experienced this issue for couple of times, actually this could came from some power surge on the station power supply.

After power supply replacement the issue did not appear anymore (this was my resolving). Alternatively, if you don't have a spare one, try to swap the power supplies between the stations to see if error still persist.

Hope this helps.
