Hello,

I had a same problem. In my case there were only missing avio drivers on Guest OS (11.23) which

i tryied to recover as Virtual Machine.

So i installed:

GuestAVIOStor B.11.23.0903 HPVM Guest AVIO Storage Software
GuestAvioLan B.11.23.1003 HPVM Guest AVIO LAN Software

and again ignite image which i tryied to recover as Virtual Machine .. and it was done.

Hello,

we have a rx7640 machine with 4 locale HDs. 2 of them are mirrored and used for HP-UX11.23 and the other 2 for another OS. For these 2 OSs the machine is used with one partition.
For other test we need to split the machine to 2 hard partitions (npars). The OSs used should be on a clariion storage (cx3-20). After installing HP-UX 11.23 on one node (cell0) the system cannot start and I get the error:
gio: Error configuring root device using EFI hw paths
during the boot process.

Do you have any idea how to solve this problem.

Thanks!
From HP Integrity Virtual Machines Release Notes - http://docs.hp.com/en/T2767-90005/T2767-90005.pdf :

"If a guest configuration file specifies virtual devices that exist on nonconsecutive bus numbers, and the boot
device is in one of the higher nonconsecutive bus numbers, the guest fails to boot and displays the following
message:
gio: Error configuring root device using EFI hw paths
The bus numbers that a guest's devices are assigned to can be displayed with the following command on
the VM Host:
# hpvmstatus -V -P vm_name | grep 'Bus'
This command lists the bus numbers for all the devices in the guest's configuration. All the bus numbers should
be the same, or be in a consecutive range of numbers beginning with 0 (zero). To correct the problem with
the guest configuration, use the hpvmmodify command to relocate the boot device to a lower-numbered
bus."

regards,
ivan

Hi,

the post above applies to the Integrity Virtual Machines Software, but this is not in play here, right?

The HP-UX OS is sensitive against boot devices, this means a boot device MUST be supported for booting a HP-UX server.

Look at this matrix if you can find your array. If there is stated "NO boot support", it will just NOT work.

http://www.hp.com/products1/serverconnectivity/mass_storage_devices.html

See the note on this document:

"For complete details of interoperable configurations and to inquire about HP-UX connectivity to the storage devices listed, please contact your local HP representative"

BTW, why not using 2 of your 4 internal disks for each nPar?

Thanks for your reply.
@Torsten: the 4 locale HDs are already configured with 11.23 (2 OSs).
Totally there are 5 OSs needed (2 from locale Disks and 3 from EMC Devices bootable)

OK, but you should find out if you have a supported device for boot.
If the result is NO, you need another, supported device.
