cdrom /etc/pfs_fstab

ladies & gents,

Can anyone shed some light on the /etc/pfs_fstab file.

Are entries to this file appended on the fly as different cdroms are attached to the scsi bus? or are they added when a user initiates an ioscan command?

just curious as to the nature of the beast.

Hi,

The pfs_fstab file is used to point out what type of mounting options are used CD's being mounted in 'Rock Ridge' format or 'Portable File System. CD's of this nature are generally from Oracle. (I've not seen any others.) As
an example to mount a CD in 'RockRidge'format:

To mount the CD ROM
add the following line to the /etc/pfs_fstab
/dev/dsk/c1t2d0 /cdrom pfs-rrip xlat=unix 0
Assuming this your CD device

nohup /usr/sbin/pfs_mountd&

nohup /usr/sbin/pfsd &

/usr/sbin/pfs_mount /cdrom

Refer to pfs_mountd(1M), pfsd(1M), pfs_mount(1M) and pfs(4) for more details.
