Each Oracle instance will alocate its own shared memory.

I think you should not run in troubles with this.

Hi,

I have got a V-Class running HP-UX 11.0 64bit
I am also running Oracle 8.1.7 64bit with two databases with a combined SGA of 3GB
I need to install Oracle 8.1.6 32bit and start up another database, will I be able to do this or will the two databases running on 64bit Oracle have used all of the Shared Memory ?

Cheers

Steve

How much memory do you have in the box?

It will be diffucult to run the 32bit version on the box if you need it be close in size to the other Oracle SGA area's. The 32bit limitation will only allow for 1.75 MB of an SGA but more importantly it will need it in one of the four quadrants. With the other Oracle applications running it may be diffucult to start the new Oracle application. You may be able to do it if you keep it very small, and you have a decent amount of memory on the box.

I bet you will have problems stoping and restarting the 32 bit version if the other two databases are running.
