Questiom about impi

I am trying to use a utility that comes with SAP but get the error:

Unable to open IPMI device /dev/ipmi: status 13 (Permission denied).

The rights on the device is:

crw------- 1 root root 75 0x000000 Mar 18 2011 ipmi

Since SAP is trying as another user can or should I change the rights on the impi dev? Since I don't know what it is I am usure what changing might cause I figired I'd ask here first...

What happens if you are root?

You either need to increase the permissions to all read or the SAP program needs to be SUID root.

But I downloaded a utility, tusc, and think I found the issue... is looking for a newer version of our HPVM guest.
