Hello,

I have had problems with a tape drive LTO Ultrium 5 - and its no longer working.

I have run ioscan -fnCtape - nothing returned

I have run ioscan -funCtape - again nothing.

I removed device files under /dev/rmt and then ran insf -e, but still doesn't work - and /dev/rmt is empty.

Running ioscan -fn I see the follwoing entry for the tape drive:

disk 43 0/0/0/9/0/0/0.128.16.4.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP Ultrium 5-SCSI
/dev/dsk/c2t4d0 /dev/rdsk/c2t4d0

I have done the following:

rmsf -H 0/0/0/9/0/0/0.128.16.4.0

then insf -e

Still nothing in /dev/rmt

I've never seen this before!! Can anyone help/advise - has anyone seen this before??

This tape is on a fibre connection so is it a direct connect or part of a SAN fabric?

Have any SAN switch modifications been made recently?

The easiest way to isolate the switch is to bypass it and plug a fibre cable direct between tape and computer.

This is the odd thing ..... it isn't fibre attached.

Tape unit os directly attached to the server via a single HP SAS cable.

Is the server running 11.31?

Try

# ioscan -m lun | grep tape

# scsimgr -p get_attr all_lun -a hw_path -a device_file -a wwid -a serial_number | grep tape

# ioscan -fnNCtape

Anything changed recently? Tape drive replaced online?

Ok I have fixed it as follows, (just letting everyone know in case someone else has a similar problem to this:)

1. Powered tape unit off

2.rmsf -h 64000/0xfa00/0x2 (I did actually try this earlier (see above); however I was using the legacy device file, which didn't work, running this again but with the agile device file removed it.)

3.Power tape unit back on

4. ioscan

Tape unit is now visible with appropriate device files etc...
