Is there a X / Y or Z Modem facility with HP-UX 11.00 ?
I usually dial into a customers system from my PC for support. I now wish to download files from there (to my PC). Whats the best way of doing this ? In my previous Unix experiences I used to use "rz" and "sz". I can't find these programs on the HP.

Hi,

I've found a X/Y/Z Modem package for HP-UX 10.20 here:
http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/hppd/hpux/Misc/lrzsz-0.12.19/

Cheers

Andrew

Paul

Try using kermit, it is included in Version 11.0 and most probably will be in future versions of HPUX.
see man kermit
or
enter /usr/bin/kermit then type help at the kermit prompt.

To increase kermit file transfer performance use SET RECEIVE PACKET LENGTH to increase the packet length,
SET WINDOW to increase the packet window size, and use SET PREFIXING to reduce the overhead of control-character prefixing.

You will need a PC version of kermit, it is usually supplied with most emulation packages else see
http://www.columbia.edu/kermit/

Steve

I used the Z-modem implementation in the Pro-YAM (Yet Another Modem) product from http://www.omen.com. The RZ and SZ codes are available there, but I needed the full Pro-YAM product (at cost) to solve a somewhat different problem, namely running it as a daemon to upload files from palmtops.
