Hi

Simple Answer is no.

Patches containing KL are Kernel patches and always reboot. Other patches it is rare

Patch suggests a reboot only for a standlone.

Steve Steel

Simple question. Do I need to reboot my system after installing PHSS_24797? It only says "Automatic Reboot? No" in the patch bio.

just to add,
typically an SS (SubSystem patch) will not require a reboot... but may require service downtime.. ie can't use OpenView Network Node Manager 6.1 during install.
see the .text

Especially for a non critical patch, an Automatic reboot is not expected:

http://europe-support.external.hp.com/wpsl/bin/doc.pl/screen=wpslDisplayPatch/sid=de4d8ab21bc3466395?PATCH_PATH=/hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHSS_24798&HW=s800&OS=11.00

The patches requiring reboots are typically the KL (Kernel) and NE (Networking/Drivers)
Sometimes a CO (Command may)

installation from commandline without the -x autoreboot=true flag will be warn.

Later,
Bill

As others have said, no. However, often patches that don't require a reboot have files that are busy when the patch is installed. You will see a message concerning such and that they are renamed (I think) and added to a list to be cleaned up at the next reboot. If so, I don't like to wait too long before scheduling a reboot. Maybe it doesn't matter but I feel better.

And as Bill says, you may need to stop a particular product before patching it. You should always read the patch text file.

Darrell
