JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks) by themselves will not make much of a change in performance. If you are truly limited in performance by your disks, you need an external array which can combine multiple disks into groups where sequential blocks of data can be interleaved to provide disk transfer speeds much higher than individual disks.
