sendmail to gmail authentication/configuration

I am using hpux 11.31 with sendmail 8.3. I need to configure it so it will send out emails using a verified gmail account; basically being a relay. has anyone done it before and can share the knowledge?

update the sendmail.cf with the Relay Server - smtp.gmail.com. Configure Sendmail with AUTH for authenticating to gmail account. the below link with help you in configuring the authentication.

This should help you connect and configure with the gmail.

thanks for the reply. One more thing I have trouble with is : which email program is the active one on the server? I thought it was send mail but when I stop the services for sendmail, it still sends out mail using mail? how can i set sendmail to be the default mail program?

Default sendmail agent runs to send mail internally locally in the System node. and default sendmail runs as the mailing service. when you configure sendmail then it can send mail outside. otherwise it acts as a internal agent for sending mail locally.
