topic Migrate Ignite server to new machine in Operating System - HP-UX

I have an aging rp3410 (pa-risc), running HP-UX 11.11. Amongst other functions, it is acting as an Ignite server (C.7.12.519).

I am replacing it with a new rx2800 (Itanium) running HP-UX 11.31.

I would like to move my Ignite images from the old machine to the new one and wondered if anyone has done this successfully? If so, what are the steps that need to be taken?

Many thanks,

Gary

Why moving old images? It would be better to create more current images?

Hi Torsten,

Most of the Ignite client machines are 24x7 machines that only change every every year or 2 (when we have our maintenance shutdown, and when we do our updates and take new Ignite images).

Best regards,

Gary

Of course you can take a backup from your productive systems, takes usually 10 to 20 minutes.

I agree with Torsten that can create new archives.

> wondered if anyone has done this successfully?

Sort of:

When using separate NFS server for the archive location, have moved the archives to new NFS server and updated the Ignite config for the archives.

Have moved client config to new Ignite server from old and then created new archives.

Steps:

Configure new Ignite server in general, such as config.local.

Copy /var/opt/ignite/clients/

If you must migrate the old archives:

Copy /var/opt/ignite/recovery/archives/

Decide when to update the configuration of the old archives so that the configuration references the new server: Either in advance, or put this in your operational procedures for if you have to recover from an old archive that was migrated.

To update configuration for an archive:

For each /var/opt/ignite/clients/<client>/recovery/<date time stamp>/, edit the archive_cfg.

Edit the assignment of variable 'nfs_source'

Sanity check: Check syntax before and after with 'instl_adm -T -f archive_cfg'
