I made an ignite tape, that I wish to boot from, using make_tape_recovery on a rx7620 itanium with local ultrium lto3 with no problems.

When I interrupt the autoboot, I get the EFI boot manager menu and the tape drive is not in the list. I went into the EFI Shell and ran a search all and it shows up - Pun3, Lun0. However it does not show up in the device mapping table when you do a Shell>map.

I searched the forums and found that you guys often said to interrupt autoboot and I would get a menu like:
Main Menu: Enter command or menu > sea IPL
and I could do a search here and boot from the tape drive when it was listed, but I can't seem to get this type of prompt. Some of you guys had links to solutions that are now broken.

Thanks in advance, y'all are awesome, very helpful.

Ok, I am going to try your two step process.

I just talked to an x-employee and he has seen this machine boot from a tape - he says it might need the .efi driver in the right location since the drive shows up as bootable in one location but not in another. I have no idea where to get a .efi file that would work to try to import. There is a menu option to load one though.

I will try to update the firmware as well.

Thanks for all of your help and consideration, i will divy out points and close the thread when i finish the two-step process.

I have that exact same problem, how do I boot from tape? I don't understand what this below means.

Now select "boot from file" in the boot menu and you will (hopefully) see something like this:

This is the output of these commands. I need to boot off the highlighted items, which is what the tape drive is:

reconnect -r

Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet (BCM5703) is detected (PCI-X)
Scsi(Pun2,Lun0) _NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A 1.30 ( 40 MBytes/sec)
Scsi(Pun5,Lun0) HP Ultrium 3-SCSI G54D ( 80 MBytes/sec)
HP 2Port 2Gb Fibre Channel Adapter (driver 1.47, firmware 3.03.154)
Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet (BCM5703) is detected (PCI-X)
HP 2Port 2Gb Fibre Channel Adapter (driver 1.47, firmware 3.03.154)
Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet (BCM5703) is detected (PCI-X)
ReconnectController(0,0,0) : Status = Success

Shell> bcfg boot dump
The boot option list is:
01.
