This is exactly why, though I have ignite images of our servers regularly done - I *still* dump my boot disks via dd to tape, another file system, etc.

The problem is that ignite occasionally has bugs, and these bugs include not being able to boot or use your recovery tape. Need to do testing often to ensure that these tools stay working currently, and even better - have a plan b to go along with it.

Dear all,

We carried out an ignite make_tape_recovery command on an rx7620 B.11.23 with Ignite-UX C.6.2.241 but when booting from the tape we get:

"Device Path Acpi(HWP0002,400)/Pci(1|0)/Scsi(Pun4,Lun0)
Using EFI boot partition (no HPUX partition on boot media)
fs_connect: Could not acquire Disk IO protocol for HPUX partition.
No valid HPUX filesystem found in HPUX partition

(C) Copyright 2004 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.All rights reserved

HP-UX Boot Loader for IPF -- Revision 2.025

Cannot get a FileSystem handle for LoadedImage->DeviceHandle
Type 'help' for help

HPUX>

HPUX> exit
Exiting bootloader."

New to ia64 igniting. What could be wrong with our tape? There was some other error that appeared in the log as follows:
"
* /opt/ignite/bin/save_config -f
/var/opt/ignite/recovery/2010-10-25,11:40/system_cfg vg00
/opt/ignite/bin/save_config[2]: ::^J0: not found." though the command finished succesfully.

Thanks for help.

"

Shalom,

I'm not sure what version it was introduced, but tape boot capability for Ignite might be a version 7.x feature.

Making the tape drive available for boot may require a firmware update.

See this thread on the second issue:

http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?admit=109447627+1288198256101+28353475&threadId=1152977

You also have to set up the tape device in EFI before you can boot from it.
http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?admit=109447627+1288198357196+28353475&threadId=1264938

These threads refer some links to http://docs.hp.com which has been heavily modified(trashed) by a migration to a new site within HP's documentation empire.

I would look into EFI setup. The Ignite version is probably new enough.

SEP
