Hi

Correct me if I´m wrong: In the documentation, say that client should boot from the LAN (normal boot). I dont want want this to happen, only in case if a client server root disk (vg00) dies.
I think I´m getting a little bit confused, because in one hand you guys are giving me comands to run on prompt to create ignite tapes, but on the other hand on the manual says that the client boots from the server!!!

F.R.

The gnite/UX package supports backup and restore using tape and also over the network. For tape, on;y the client is involved -- no ignite server is needed. For network support, once the ignite server has been configured, you can backup each client to the server. There are two ways:

1. command line on the client (make_net_recovery).

2. Using the GUI on the server to 'pull' the backup to the server.

You run ignite backups on each of your servers, keeping at least two but possibly 4 images in the archives. NOTE: You'll need a *LOT* of space on the ignite server to hold 12 systems with at least 2-4 backups each. Consider creating a separate lvol of about 600-900 GB which you then mount at: /var/opt/ignite (after moving the existing files to the new lvol).

To recover a system from the server, use the lan boot method appropriate for your client (PARISC or Itanium/Integrity). Be sure you check on each server's backup image that it is complete without failures. The backup logs are located in:

/var/opt/ignite/clients/<CLIENT_NAME>/recovery/<BACKUP_DATE>/recovery.log</BACKUP_DATE></CLIENT_NAME>

Hi!

Much clear picture now after Bill´s comments, but I still have some queries:
all my servers are rx (itanium)
1. the servers with ignite installed and with tape drive have hp-ux version 11.23, all the remainig servers with no ignite installed and no internal tape drive installed are running under 11.31
The question now is can I still use one of the 11.23 server with internal tape drive to be the ignite server, or do I have to go for new 11.31 servers with probably an ignite version superior than the one on the 11.23 machines?

regards

F.R.
