Hello there!

Our *nix administrator has had an accident, and now we are in trouble now - or let's say I'm in trouble now ... as I'm the network and MS-world admin.
We have one HP-UX 11.00 and one HP-UX 10.20 based systems here (HP9000 series).
On both systems an old samba version is installed, and now we have some problems eg. with the W2K AD system.
Some newsgroups on the web say that there should be at least samba 2.2.1a installed.
Ok, I checked the samba website, and there's a 2.2.2 package available for both, 11.00 and 10.20.
But how do I install those packages?

swinstall
if it's in tar or depot format.

without any options it'll be a GUI.

Hello there!

Thanks a lot for your fast replies!!!
Well, I started with upgrading the 10.20 system, as it is (or was) more a testing machine.
After extracting the .tar.gz archive I had a look at the readme, and it told me that it's already ready-to-use compiled.
So I thought it should be enough to rename the old samba directory /usr/local/samba to /usr/local/_samba, and to copy the extracted archive there (cp -R /opt/samba /usr/local/).
After copying some additional files (from sbin to bin) it works fine now ....

I guess its not a _good_ way to do so, but it seems that it worked.

What do you think?
I started swinstall as root, but I was not able to use the .tar file.

Torsten,

Windows Active(less) directory is NOT available for samba, yet. Had M$ used the kerberos standard, and not modified it, this wouldn't have been an issue. The issue lies with M$'s continuing stupidity.
