Hi Michael,

Thank you very much for the response.

I tried it, but it failed with the following error message:

#mt -f /dev/rmt/0mn fsf 1
fsf 1 failed: I/O error

Also, I tried another 2 backup tapes, but same error for 1 of them and another 1 threw "directory checksum error"

I wonder if I can use tar command from integrity server to read ignite tape. Is there any other command to read ignite tape from integrity server USB tape drive.

Please advice.

Thanks & Regards,
Siddhesh.

Hi,

We need to boot new bl860c server which does not have any OS, SCSI tape drive and internal disks. Only USB DVD drive is connected to it.

Therefore, we tried to boot bl860c server via iLO virtual Media which is HPUX VSE 11iV3 OS installation media, and then we tried to recover the server via USB tape drive with ignite recovery tape of hpux 11.31 IA. But it failed with the following error message:

itool must exit because the /var/opt/ignite/INDEX file is missing. Error: read failed: Invalid argument(err no=22)
...

Please help.

Thanks & Regards,
Siddhesh.
Hi

Lets verify the tape.

a) insert tape
b) find USB tape device name
ioscan -funC tape
search for USB tape device
/dev/rmt/....

Post to thread /dev/rmt/....name

c) mt -t /dev/rmt/#mn rew
If you can rewind then you have the correct device name

d) mt -t /dev/rmt/#mn fsf 1
move forward one record, the boot lif record, to 2nd record.

e) tar -tvf /dev/rmt#mn (* read table of contents *)

The BL860 comes with a one by three '...SUV..' USB adaptor cable. It is also known as a pig tail. You USB drive can only connect to the BL860 through the 2nd pigtail of the SUV.

Question: Where does the SUB plub into? In the marked SUB port in back of the BL.
