If I'm hearing you right, all your current servers are at 5.4.50.....

If you upgrade your Ignite server, it will push out to the lower level clients to match the Ignite server. IUX does that automatically when it sees lower versions on clients, I believe.

But....you seem to be way way behind on ignite versions. I'm at 7.8.201 and even I know that I'm a bit behind.
So you might as well consider the option to start fixing by upgrading Ignite across the board...

Just a thought,
Rita

I have just installed two new HPUX 11iV2 servers with Ignite C.6.9.141
My Ignite Server is at B.5.4.50.
When I run the make_net_recovery command it says (logically) that the server version is lower.

ERROR: The version of the tools used for system recovery on "XXX" is newer
than the version found on the server system "YYY". You need to
either update the version of Ignite-UX on the server or down-date the
version on "XXX"

If I upgrade YYY, with that cause all my other ignite clients to fail? How can I upgrade to make sure there is little problems. swremove then swinstall? or swinstall so there are two versions?
FYI: For "server frozen reasons" I can not upgrade all HPUX ignite clients.

Shalom,

This is a major upgrade.

You have two choices to have reliable DR.

1) Upgrade those frozen servers.
2) Build Ignite servers to service those clients still running 5.x Ignite

At least those are the choices that I see.

SEP

So to reiterate, the older Ignite clients will not work if there is a newer version of Ignite on the Ignite Server?

The IUX (Ignite Server) will automatically go out and if it sees clients with a version less than it - it will automatically move to upgrade to be the same level of the itself (the server).

If the IUX server is asked to do some task with a client server that is at a level higher than itself (the server), then you will get the message you got.

Your options....downgrade those new clients, or upgrade IUX (hence, all the rest too).

Or for those couple of new servers, you could run a make_tape_recovery directly from those boxes, thus eliminating the IUX server.
It's not make_net, but it is a recovery tape.

Rgrds,
Rita

Let me correct that first stmt.

If you issue command for the IUX to perform a task on a client & it discovers that the client is a version less than itself (IUX server) it will then .... etc.etc.

/rcw
