Since you want to backup to tape, you will need to install Ignite on each server. Then you will need to run make_tape_recovery on each, like this:

make_tape_recovery -a /dev/rmt/0mn -I -x inc_entire=vg00

You will require a tape drive on each server because Ignite does not do networked tape drives. That will take care of your "Ignite Backup Bootable Tape" requirement.

For your File System Backup requirement, you would use whatever backup scheme you currently have - tar, fbackup, OmniBack/DP, whatever. Once again doing this on each server.

Pete

Virtual or physical, each machine requires its own local tape drive.

The only other way to accomplish this would be to make one machine an Ignite server and run Ignite's make_tape_recovery with the Ignite server holding the repositories. You can then dump those repositories to tape, making them bootable in the process.

This is all spelled out in the Ignite documentation. Maybe the documentation will be clearer to you.

Pete
