Hello All,

We have a setup with vPars installed with HP-UX 11iv3 0709 release. Please suggest me a solution for upgrading the HP-UX to 11iv3 1003 release without losing/changing the configuration of the applications.

I'm not sure whats the difference between Ignite-UX update and Update-UX. Please advise which is the best mean to perform the upgrade the same version of the HP-UX. Also what are the mandatory tasks to be done before the update process.

Thanks,
Jayaprakash S

Ignite-UX is a tool for backing up your current OS installation, so that you can easily go back to your previous configuration. It also allows you to create customized installation images ("Golden Images") for quickly installing many systems to a custom configuration, but that is not required in your case.

Update-UX is the tool for upgrading the HP-UX OS without a reinstall. I understand its success rate is significantly less than perfect when upgrading to a different HP-UX version, but a much better one when just upgrading to a different release within the same HP-UX version.

(The veterans of this forum all seem to strongly prefer cold-install over Update-UX when upgrading HP-UX versions.)

Nevertheless, creating an Ignite backup so that you can roll back is just common sense and a good sysadmin practice before any major system change.

MK
