Hi

Can any one tell me how to restore HP Unix os from a ignite backup on the tape

Any one having step to restore from the tape in pdf

please help me...

What server model do you have?

Is source and destination the same?

Yups server model and HPUX version??

General procedure

1. Load the system recovery tape in the tape drive.
2. Boot the system.
3. Interrupt the boot sequence by pressing Esc.
4. Select the tape drive you want to use, and then boot from it.

5. Allow the installation process to complete.

To recognize tape from EFI type
EFI>reconnect â r
And it would show the devices from where u can easily recognize

back up is in /dev/rmt/0m

Hi Tinu,

Recovery / steps depends on the platform you have ( Check Server model RP / Rx etc)
Restoration concept is similar how ever the steps may differ.

if it RP/PARISC:

Insert the tape
Boot the system
Interrupt boot seqence to select other boot device.
(Search for the tape path & boot from the same.)
Select no interact with ISL
Allow install process to Complete.

IF Model is RX:

Simple option:

Boot from the OS media DVD from EFI.
Cancel the non interactive installtion when it ask for pressing return
Ignite ux "user interface" welcome sreen will be presented.
Check the "Media only installation" and "Guided installtion"
Media installation screen be will be presented.
Check "Boot from DVD , Recover from Tape option"
Choose the Tape drive and follow the steps for restoration.

IInd option:

Check whether the Firmware supports the tape boot.
if yes select the Tape drive to boot from EFI ( if not present - go to EFI options and add new boot device )

1. Make tape recovery
2. Insert the System Recovery tape into the tape drive.
3. Boot the system.
4. Interrupt the boot sequence to redirect it to the tape drive.
5. Cancel the non-interactive installation by hitting the key when the following messages are displayed:
WARNING: The configuration information calls for a non- interactive installation.
Press within 10 seconds to cancel batch-mode installation:

The "Ignite-UX Welcome" screen will be presented. Select the option: [ Select Install HP-UX ]

6. Select [ GO ] to proceed with the installation.( This will restore the system) 7. Re-mirror the root disk after restore.
