Hi,

I'm pretty sure that ignite only gets everything that is in vg00, so if you have other vg's I dont think it covers them

regards

Matt
Hi,

What is the maximum amount of data that a make_recovery tape can hold?

A make_recovery tape can hold as much data as will fit on the tape. If make_recovery is run in the foreground it will prompt for more tapes if they are necessary.

Rgs,

Hi,
you can use make_tape_recovery to backup all your volume groups i.e:
/opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -v -x inc_entire=vg00 -x inc_entire=vgxx ,
and if you have disks not configured in a volume group use the disk block device file (e.g.:"/dev/dsk/c0t5d0")

Note:Do not specify a disk if it is part of a volume group.

Regards

Nafez ALNajjar

Yes, you *can* do this all on one Ignite tape but the question is "should you?".

Ignite is not a backup tool. Ignite was designed to be a recovery tool. You use it to recover your root volume group (vg00). This should give you a running machine with all your software loaded (assuming it was loaded in /opt). You can use your normal backup/recovery software to rebuild your data. This allows you to utilize the features of your backup package like versioning, media management, etc.

Something for you to think about before you head off on a potentially misguided path.

Pete

>Pete: This should give you a running machine with all your software loaded (assuming it was loaded in /opt).

I assume Pete meant it loads all of your recovery software, not your application software. You use the former to restore your databases and applications.

(If you have a customized application to restore your data, you may need another step.)
