PHCO_37391 did not fix this problem for me. I have a case open with HP and they state that there is a known issue with Ignite C.7.5.142 caused by certain UNCLAIMED devices. If you have either of these then this may be your problem:

IA (from ioscan):
OO 3 0/0/2/0.0.1 UsbBootMouse UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN OO Device Driver

PA:
ext_bus 3 1/12/0/0 c8xx UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN PCI SCSI (1000000f)

This is to be fixed in the next Ignite release late June/early July. I know that doesn't do us folks out here in the trenches much good. You may want to open a case and encourage HP to make the fix available early.

I have just updated a server from 11.11 to 11.23. It went well, with no big problems. I have also uninstalled Ignite-UX and reinstalled it with the 11.23 Ignite-UX depot. However, when I do a make_tape_recovery, I get the following output and Ignite-UX fails. I have verified that the tape drive is present on the system.
Looking at Bobs reply I'm wondering if you have any UNCLAIMED devices on your system? Would it simply be an issue of fixing them so that they're claimed?

And then installing that newer patch?

Definately seem my problem is the c720 and that 11.23 does not like it. I found the following comment in another posting here on ITRC.

"HP has confirmed that the C720 driver has been removed from 11.23. It is there in 11.22 and earlier."

That being the case how did I either add a driver back in, make it claim on a different driver, or deactivate the device so HP-UX quits seeing it? These would seem to be my options, agreed?

You know, I know the simple way to fix this. That C720 is simply not supported in 11.23. It is is slot 7 of my L2000 chasis so I will just bring the system down and remove it and be done. Unless there are other suggestions, that is my course of action. Thanks to everyone that responded! :-)

Problem was that upgrade from 11.11 to 11.23 resulted in presense of an unsupported C730 SCSI card. This card was listed as UNCLAIMED in ioscan. When Ingite-UX would scan for hardware it was failing on this unclaimed device due to lack of hardware driver support in 11.23. Solution was to remove the card from the system as it is no longer supported hardware under 11.23.
