      <description>Hi family,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I am facing one problem..&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;When I am trying to make ping in localhost (127.0.0.1) . It is showing unknow address. I have been able to make ping thru ip address. When I am giving nslookup command it is been able to printout localhost name. But it showing error in ping localhost command. I have check /etc/hosts, /etc/named.boot. Everything seems ok. Pls let me know what I am missing.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Sandip&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>When you do an nslookup, it is going to check all the lookups (in the order you have specified in the nss* file).  So in your nslookup, where did it find it's answer. That may be your first key.  I'd bet probably in the hosts file...and if you've done what I have done myself too...there is probably a space where it shouldn't be or instead of a period you have a colon (or in my case a comma)..&lt;BR /&gt;Anyway, just a thought, hope it helps.</description>

      <description>Ok, check the following.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;1. You should have an entry in your /etc/hosts file that reads:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;127.0.0.1       localhost       loopback&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;2. check your /etc/nsswitch.conf (if you do not have one, create one) it should contain a line that reads:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;hosts:  files [NOTFOUND=continue] dns&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;3. Check that your /etc/rc.config.d/netconf contains the following line:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;LOOPBACK_ADDRESS=127.0.0.1&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Good luck&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;</description>
