Shalom Charlie,

Clearly this backup is not good.

Ignite has been improved, patched and upgaded since this release was installed.

It could be as simple as a bad tape.

I'd try another backup tape and see if you get the same results.

SEP

I assume this is a workstation or at least a graphics console.

The workstation support for 11.23 has stopped (in fact graphics support). Last release was around may 2004.

Configure and use the serial line console may help.

If you can still run your system, I would upgrade ignite to a recent version first. Many changes and fixes were made since your version came out (2004).
Hi SEP and Torsten,

I've installed the latest version of Ignite-UX (Mar 2006 C.6.7.79). I'm now running the make_recovery_tape and I found this message from the logfile.

***********************
WARNING: You are about to create an Itanium-based recovery tape. To recover
the system using this tape, you must perform 'two-step media recovery'
where the boot media (CD or DVD) has the same version of Ignite-UX as
the version on this tape.
**********************

This means I need to use same version of Ignite-UX from both tape and DVD.

Thanks,
Charlie

Hi SEP and Torsten,

I was able to recover from the Ignite backup using the same Ignite-UX revision (c.6.7.79) on both Core OS Install (March 2006) and Ignite backup.

Thank you very much for your help.

Regards,
Charlie
