topic syslog instl_bootd error message in Operating System - HP-UX

The following message was logged in my HP9000's system log during the middle of the production day: "May 9 10:39:29 icgsca1 instl_bootd[14365]: instl_bootd: No available IP address found in: /etc/opt/ignite/instl_boottab". What might have caused this? We would not have been doing any system work at this time (playing with Ignite, or whatever). Thank you.

Shalom,

Most likely the bootd mini DHCP server has all its addresses handed out or is in conflict with real IP's on the network.

SEP

Messages like this can appear when any machine on your network queries the network with a properly formatted 'bootp' request to a certain port.

Usually, this kind of request arrives from PA HP-UX servers when attempting an Ignite LAN boot from the the machine's firmware prompt, such as the command
'boot lan.1.2.3.4 install'

It sounds like somebody was trying to Ignite over the LAN, and you have not configured this feature.
