Many different ways:

you can use lanboot from the EFI shell or the vparboot -p <YOUR_PARTITION> -I ... from another running vpar to restore from ignite server.

See your vpar manual for all details.
(also on http://docs.hp.com)</YOUR_PARTITION>

Hi all,

I have a superdome box with 1 nPar with 5 vPars on it:

vPar0 - Ignite Server with a HP DAT72 drive claimed
vPar1 - Without tape drive
vPar2 - Without tape drive
vPar3 - Without tape drive
vPar4 - Without tape drive

Ok. I´m looking for a way to do an ignite backup via "make_net_recovery" (already done) also i want to know if there is a way to do a booteable tape for each vPar and if there is a way to perform a recovery from it.

The SuperDome processor's are Itanium2.

Thanks!!!

Hi Pete,

I have this version:

T1335BC A.04.02.10 HP-UX Virtual Partitions for 11.23

The key in this case is that only one vPar(also used as ignite server) has a tape drive on it.

reggards.

Hi,
check for the document

/opt/ignite/share/doc/makenetrec.txt

(also in attach)

You need to set your Ignite Server on the system with the tape, but for restore by tape you need to connect the tape at the server to restore. Also you can restore by network.

Enrico

Hi Enrico,

Can you explain a procedure to recover any vPar that hasn't a tape drive, maybe via network.

The question is that i´m newby in vPars management and i proactively want to know an emergency procedure to recover any vPar.

regards.

Thanks Thorsten,

Just one last question... Is there a way to make a booteable tape from the ignite server to each individual vpar?

The client writes its config via NFS to ignite server into "/var/opt/ignite/recovery/archives/client" and i guess it writes some to "/var/opt/ignite/clients"...

May i create a booteable recovery tape from this files?

regards

You can create a bootable tape or DVD from the image located on the server.

see the documentation, http://docs.hp.com/en/IUX/
