Hi,
I have two LAN cards in my N-Class system each having 4 lan ports .Son in all i have lan1 to lan 8 ethernet ports.Now I have configured lan 8 ipaddress in my netconf file as

INTERFACE_NAME[0]=lan8
IP_ADDRESS[0]=10.16.6.4
SUBNET_MASK[0]=255.0.0.0
BROADCAST_ADDRESS[0]=""
INTERFACE_STATE[0]=""
DHCP_ENABLE[0]=0

Now when i use lanadmin (menu) to display of the status of ppa no. 8 its says
administrative state up
operation state down.

i am not able to put my server on the n/w.
Any body having any idea how to make it up.

thnks
kuls

Hi,

Just a thought....
Have you changed the cable and checked ?. Change the network cable and give the command lanadmin->select the ppa no , then give a reset.

I feel this may solve the problem.

Best of luck,
An

What it is telling you is that it doesn't have a link light. This could be because there is no cable, the cable is not a straight cable (assuming you are talking to a hub or switch), the cable is bad, the hub/switch port is bad, or most likely because autonegotiate didn't work and you have one end set to 10M and the other to 100M. You should set each end of the circuit to either 10HD or 100FD depending on what the card and hub/switch support. Also your idea of lan8 may differ from HP's so try plugging into the port at the other end of the card and try the other card too.

Also I assume that this is the first lan circuit you have administered. Otherwise you need to use a different index for each circuit (can't use 0 for all of them.)

Ron

Hi,

1, You will be able to understand by hardware address. Mostly it will written near to slot.
2. Being it is connecting to a switch the cable should be a straight one.

Best of luck,
AR

One card cage on the N class is the other way up from the other, so if you have one card in either cage, don't assume the one on the far right is lan8.

Simplest way to figure this out...

-Plug in a LAN cable, and check you have a link light on the card
-cycle thro all the lan interfaces in lanadmin until you find one that is up... you don't need to have an IP stack bound to the card for this to show in lanadmin.

HTH

Duncan

Hi Kuls,

Take a ioscan printout for the lan ports,

ioscan -fnkC lan

Then chec kthe output of this ioscan against the physical address of the cards connected to the system. you'll see something like 0/1/2/3 or 1/2/3/4 written on the card which specifies which port is port 0 or 1 on that card. Then match that against the ioscan output and look for the 4th port on the lan card which is identified as lan8 on the ioscan output. This will help you in identifying the lan8 port on the network adapter.

Hope this helps.

Regds
You have 2 nic's? You shouldn't use index 0, then. Increment 0 by 1, so...

INTERFACE_NAME[1]=lan8
IP_ADDRESS[1]=10.16.6.4
SUBNET_MASK[1]=255.0.0.0
BROADCAST_ADDRESS[1]=""
INTERFACE_STATE[1]=""
DHCP_ENABLE[1]=0

from your console,
# route -f

Then
# /sbin/init.d/net start

do your lanadmin again and see the result.

Hi,

The card you mean has two marks on it:

Beside the first port, there's a 1 and beside the last one there's a 4. That's the order they'll take in the ioscan.

Regards,

Xavier
