Did you transfer the depot using ftp (possibly using a windows host)?

Looks like a corrupted source file.

Where did you get it?
You are still using 10.20?

it would help to diagnose the problem if you have included how you are trying ot load these patches to your machine.

are you installing them from a depot on a remote host ?

are you using command line swinstall or are you using gui/tui interface ?

if the patches depot is residing on a remote host, is the depot registered properly over there ?

Shalom,

You probably trashed the patch set by using an ascii ftp upload to put it on your HP-9000 server.

You must download the patch set again.

Options:
1) ftp script run on the hp-9000 server, avoids issues with stupid ftp clients.
2) Use and sftp client(openssh) to transfer files from windows to HP-9000 server.

There are other options but these will do.

I'm giving a detailed lecture on this very exciting topic at HP Technology World in Houston. If you come, have questions.

One other thing. The original error message looks like you are trying to patch a 11.00 machine with 10.20 patches. I don't think thats going to work either.

SEP

could you please post the output of

nslookup sfhpuxts

and please make sure you include the whole output, not just the ip address line.

also make sure in your /etc/hosts file, 127.0.0.1 has the word "localhost" next to it not the actual server name. I have seen this mistake before, throwing system into a unnown state when it comes to self address resolution.

It sounds like your depot server and server to be patched are the same server and there is a remote access problem, which reminds me an address resolution issue.

OK, we moved from a 10.20 pax patch to a 11.00 X11 Font Library Patch now.

Anyway, be aware windows identifies files by the extension and doesn't know something like "*.depot". The ftp transfer is using ascii mode and this will corrupt the source file. This is the reason for the error.
Make sure to set the transfer mode to "bin".

I'm still not sure what you are going to do...
