Need help installing emacs

Hello,

How do I install emacs-21.3.tar.gz package in a 11.23 itanium server. Should I unzip, untar and run "configure" or "make" to install. Is there a way to create as a depot and install using "swinstall".

Shalom SKR,

gunzip emacs-21.3.tar.gz
tar xvf emacs-21.3.tar

cd to the directory that was created.

The compile instructions are inside.

Usually you do have to configure,make, then make install.

emacs-21.4 is available as depot at:
http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Editors/emacs-21.4/

Thanks for your answers.

I need emacs 21.3, this is not available as depot in hpux.connect.org.uk. Otherthan running configure/make, is there any other option to install the package.

You get emacs from gnu.org, as a tar ball, and proceed with gunzip and tar and explained above. I have always done it like that.
