Hi guys, one thing i wanna ask is that when i am recovering from tape, when i do a
bo p* to start booting from the tape, will the ignite option will appear by itself

A screen will appear asking if you want tinstall on OS or recover a system - you want to install the OS

being on the console i will tab my way around ???.

Yes you use the tab key to get around on the screens

Another thing what if i am using it over the net. Like one server being the ignite server and i have to do the ignite over the network. How will i go about doing that.

You issue the command

bo lan install

or

bo lan.<IGNITE server="" ip=""> install

It is very important that
a) you use the core lan card on all systems
b) all servers are on the same subnet
c) you recover to the same subnet you vacked up from (change to the DR subnet after successful restore)
</IGNITE>

Hi people, i wanted to know that when you take an ignite image from one server with a bit of a different hardware configuration, and then take that tape to another server and want to restore the configuration onto that one, how do u do that. We r doing a disaster recovery exercise and have different servers. I have to take image from one and put it on the other as pasrt of the exercise.
Thanks.

Hi:

This is quite doable with current Ignite releases. If you are running a 64-bit kernel you must Ignite on hardware that supports 64-bit computing.

Things are very much easier when your operating system is 11i since most of the drivers are already loaded for your server and will match (more readily) target hardware than pre-11i configurations.

The process is very straightforward. You create a 'make_tape_recovery' Ignite tape and boot from it on the "disaster recovery" server. You choose the Advanced Installation mode; review and/or customize a few settings and your server will be rebuilt. You then recovery your non-vg00 data and your ready to test.

Regards!

...JRF...

There is a "Clone to different hardware" option in Ignite somewhere, I can't recall where at the moment. Make sure you check that as it will help.

However, it really depends on how different the hardware is. If the hardware is too different, then it will be difficult.

An extreme example: Recovering a D380 to an rp7420 would not work at all.
The following steps will do what you ask - I have done it multiple times at DR testing.

1. boot off of the ignite tape

2. when prompted, chose the interactive restore

3. on the basic tab on the configuration screen, select the additional button

4. set cloning to different hardware equal to true

Also keep in mind if your trying to restore a cell based system image on bus based system, its probably not going to work.
