PHCO_30150 has a few dependencies which must also be installed as well (PHCO_21187, PHCO_23651, PHCO_23791, PHCO_30150, PHKL_18543, PHKL_20016, PHKL_27980, PHKL_28150, PHKL_28766, PHKL_30578)

I would install the new pax patch making sure that all of the dependencies are also on the system. Then run the utility check_patches (PHCO_27779) to see if it reports any problems with the patches that are installed. Errors will be logged to the /var/adm/sw/swagent.log.

Also can you tell us exactly where it hangs during the restore?

I have a HP-UX 11.00 system with IG-UX B.5.3.35. Tapes made from this system using make_tape_recovery used to work until I installed PHCO_30150 cumulative pax patch. It
now hangs when loading the OS archive from tape. I figure it has something to do with pax.

I reverted to the older patch PHCO_25418. Recovery tapes now work. I haven't tried installing any subsequent pax patches leading up to 30150 to see which patch breaks the OS archive load.

Just wanted to post this message in case anyone else has noticed this issue.

Thank you.

Nivish -- Can you log a call with your local HP response center.

I haven't seen anything in the database that shows this problem so it would be good to open an official call with HP so that HP can locate the root cause and fix the issue.

Best regards,

Kent M.
check_patches reveals:
- no invalid patches are present
- neither PHSS_16481 nor PHSS_17571 are currently active ( this is about ar(1) patches)
- All object modules checksum values match
- All object modules checksum values match
- Warning messages about one or more superceded patchsets being in the installed state, but they include a configure script
- All patch filesets are in the correct patch_state
- 5 swverify errors on patch filesets, which
upon examination don't seem to be related to the patch dependencies
PHNE_29460.INETSVCS-RUN
PHNE_23003.INETSVCS-RUN
PHNE_14820.INETSVCS-RUN
PHCO_23752.SYS-ADMIN
PHNE_26096.INETSVCS-RUN

The patch description for PHCO_30150 only lists PHKL_28202 as a dependency. I already have superceding PHKL_30578.

Regarding the dependencies listed in this thread:
PHCO_21187 - have superceding PHCO_25902
PHCO_23651 - have
PHCO_23791 - don't have
PHKL_18543 - have
PHHL_20016 - have
PHKL_27980 - have superceding PHKL_29693
PHKL_28150 - have
PHKL_28766 - have superceding PHKL_31867
PHKL_30578 - have

As for not having PHCO_23791 on my system,
I'm curious as to how the superceding patch PHCO_24437 is not identified as an HP Recommended patch when doing a patch assessment of the system.

When I Ignite the system with a recovery tape, here is what happens in sequence:
- skip the initial stuff, its okay
- mini-system download complete
- installs boot area on disk
- enables swap areas
- backs up LVM configuration
- message about processing the archive source
- timestamped message about starting the archive load of the source
- Positioning the tape (/dev/rmt/0mn)
- Archive extraction from tape is beginning. Please wait.
** IT HANGS INDEFINITELY HERE **

Since I removed PHCO_30150 and reverted to PHCO_25418, I have installed PHCO_29189 (the one before 30150). I should complete a test run in a few hours and will post the results.

Nothing else on the system has been changed
other than removing 30150, installing 29189,
and removing PHCO_27375(to resolve the issue with SAM error when attempting to display local hosts file with over 500 lines).

Having installed PHCO_29189 and made a recovery tape, I tried another Ignite.

timestamp: Completed archive load of the source (blah)

The archive load took about 40 minutes and the entire ignite process ran to completion.

For now I'm going to avoid PHCO_30150. With it, I left the system alone (at the archive load stage) for 15 hours and it hadn't completed, which led me to believe that something is wrong with the patch.
