Hey,

Have u tried using another media ?
Down your tape work good doing other things ?

I have a tip that can help you:
Install an ignite server (if you don't have one already) and use make_net_recovery. It is much more convinient, and can help you backup all your systems to one server.

Hey,

Make sure 2 things:
1. Check that there is enough space in /var/tmp.
2. Check if the lif file is still in /var/tmp. If not Make a bootable lif file youeself:
As root run the command
/opt/ignite/bin/make_medialif -f /var/opt/ignite/local/config.recovery

This places the bootable lif file in the default location:/var/opt/ignite/local/uxinstlf.recovery.
Check if the command succeeds, and if so
Then try to dd it manually, just for the check.

Jose,
I agree with the sugestion that you make sure there is enough space in /var. Tried two times last week to make_tape_recover and /var was 91% full. It kept bombing out on trying to make the LIF file but the error reported made me think it was a problem with the tape.

Regards

Jose,
How much available space do you have in /var? Less than on the other machines?
You might run the cleanup utility to see about removing superceeded patches. Do man cleanup for paramaters. After my problem last week I ran the cleanup with a c1 and then ignite worked fine. My /var went from 91% free to 48% free and ignite ran fine. You have to be comfortable with how many "superceeds" you are willing to remove.

Regards,

hi Jose can you do a dd if=/dev/rmt/0m of=/dev/null ? If not then it is the HW.

you might want to recreate the device file.
Delete the Device file.
insf -e.

Also try cleaning and using another tape.
I would suspect it is the H/W though.

Hi everybody

We also faced the same problem in HP Ux 11.11 and Ignite UX version C.6.0.115(B5725AA ).Tape driver Ultirum 2

We tried replacing tapes , tried with 4 tapes but dind't solved the problem. Atlast a reboot of the tape drive( library) solved the issue.

Rgds,

Radhi
