I'd like to know if ignite is setup on a system. How do I check it? /var/opt/ignite/ignite? Is it ok to run it .. would it have overhead or any consequences?. Could I know if it is latest version?

Right check it in /opt/ignite

swlist -l product | grep -i ignite to know the version. Check the lastest on software.hp.com

I would just download and install the latest version from

http://www.docs.hp.com/en/IUX/

Even if you have one installed already, it's a good idea to make sure you have the latest.

Pete

I believe ignite is included with a system. However I find that the version is almost always an older version and updating is called for.

If this system came preloaded from HP then ignite will be there. If you stripped it and reloaded then it may not have been selected to install.

It really depends on *HOW* you want to run Ignite as to whether any set up is required.

If you just want to run make_tape_recovery to create a bootable tape of VG00, then you can just run the command to create the tape. There is a little bit of overhead when running this, but it is insignificant. I have run make_tape_recovery during the day on production systems without any complaints.

If you want to use the network portion, make_net_recovery, then more set up is required as it uses NFS and tftp for some things.

I would recommend you have a look at the Ignite documentation in /opt/ignite/share/doc and also the Ignite administrators guide at:
http://www.docs.hp.com/en/IUX/infolib.html#d0e207

There are both HTML and PDF versions available.
