Swinstalling on top of an old one usually works OK. I would try this first, and if the old version does not disappear completly from swlist, then resort to swremove.

SEP has a good idea about making a copy of /var/opt/ignite/INDEX -- if you do choose to swremove, this can blow away your index file.

A caution about updating ignite:
- images & archives you built & installed on the old version may run/install a bit differently on the new version.
I am considering upgrading ignite. I have seen some different approaches to doing the upgrade. On the forums, I see that you need to swremove the old version, then swinstall. On the HP ignite site, it says that there is no need to swremove. I don't want to swremove & find out that the new version doesn't work for us. What is the preferred method?

Thx,
Andy

copy out any custom configuration files like INDEX.
swremove the old version.
swinstall the new version.

When upgrading within the same major version say 5.3.x to 5.4.x you can usually getaway without the swremove.

But.

You are better off doing it.

sEP

Hi,Andy

sometimes, a verified document gives me a good guideline what can I treat of that well,So in my case always follow the procedure and order in the document and comment.
Both of cases are available to upgrade Ignite-UX.

Regards

Pat

Andy,

It's just an opinion, but the few times I've seen the install work without previously removing the old version hardly make it seem worth skipping the extra step. We constantly see questions on the forum about errors with the install and they are usually fixed by going back and removing first, then re-installing. I always remove first.

Deputy Barney
