I am currently trying to setup a ignite server, and was wondering if I need to allocate one machine to setup/install/configure/deploy this environment. My group is pretty limited in terms of hardware resources, and was wondering if I can setup the ignite server on a partitioned hard drive? Can you please let me know.

Thank you

All you need is enough diskspace to contain your image files. This varies widely machine to machine. You don't need any extra logical volumes or disks. I happen to have 99 GB tasked to just storing my images, but that depends on what include in your images.

You may be able to store your ignite images on a samba/nfs drive connected to via the LAN. I haven't played around much with that but it should be possible.

SEP

I am not sure if I fully understand your question.

Are you talking about the hard disk space ?

Ignite-UX when used as a server, typically would require lots of space to store the clients recovery archive, depending on the number of clients this server will be serving and also on the size of the "stuff" in the client's VG00.

I would go with approximately 2-3 GB per client in /var/opt/ignite filesystem.

If you have an abundance of disk space, you can keep images from a number of systems. I usually keep 2 images for each server and I only keep the /dev/vg00 volume group.

A lot of it can be done through the ignite GUI.

Actually, what I am asking is if I can have all of my images as well as the ignite server installed on the same system? Do I need to have a separate file server and a stand alone ignite server?

Sure , you can have both the images and the IUX server in the same system.

But remember, for the clients to be able to "pull" the install from the IUX server, the server should be in the same broadcast domain as the client.

If not, you would need a boot-helper.
