whith the -i option U should be able to interact and force it to continue (but i dont no ;-).
I would recomment to installe the same version, just to be sure that you can use the backup for anything.
Hi,

I don't have practical experience in such a scenario. Though I believe that Client's ignite version should not be a matter as long as you can connect from sever.

Good luck
Shahul

I know you can backup and install 10.20 clients from an 11.0 Ignite server. I am not sure that the reverse will work though. I don't think it will. The 10.20 version of Ignite does not have the necessary binaries for an 11.0 server.

If possible, I would make your 11.0 machine the server and your 10.20 machine the client. In this situation I would also try to download the latest version of Ignite (B.4.5 or B.5, I think).

Hi,

I have heard (but not yet tested) that if you want to make_net_recovery from a higher OS you additionally have to install the ignite version of this OS at the server. So to make make_net_recovery of UX 11.00 you have to install Ignite 11.00 to your server with UX 10.20. Also you're running Ignite 10.20 at the server (yes, it sounds silly).
Maybe anyone can confirm this?

Regards
Volkmar
The target machine is unimportant simnce you are about to overlay everything anyway. However, because you are mixing incompatible versions of HP-UX (obsolete 10.20 with 11.0), there are questions: Have you created an Ignite image for 10.20 so you can blow away the 11.0 client? Or did you create an 11.0 image to blow away the 11.0 client? Because 10.20 is obsolete, I would not make it your Ignite server except to provide 10.20 images. For 11.0 and 11i images, use an 11.0 version of HP-UX...it simplifies things immensely.

You can use an Ignite 11.00 to store Disaster Recover images for 10.20 machines on your network.

What you can't do is run 10.20 forever. Its day is done. I recommend upgrading Ignite on the 11.00 Server to the latest version 4.4.30

Then you can install a boot image for 10.20 to boot off of and rebuild those machines.

Long term, you gotta upgrade.

Ignite is a good tool for this task. You can make a base 11.00 image to use as an upgrade template for upgrading the other boxes.

SEP

To provide a complete answer would take several pages. The first and most important: 10.20 was obsolete and no longer shipped back in Dec 2001. That's also the date when all new patches (except security) were discontinued. And in June last year, 10.20 is no longer supported. Some 10.20 files are starting to disappear from the HP web site. 10.20 was first released in the mid 1990's.

11.0 is also getting old. It was first relased Nov 1997 and it will soon be obsolete and then unsupported. The recommendation is to install 11.11 (first released Dec 2002), also known as 11i. Before that, you must take an inventory of your entire system for programs and applications, then see if they are compatible with 11i. You'll need to read the Release Notes for both 11.0 an 11.11 (go to ftp://contrib:9unsupp8@hprc.external.hp.com/sysadmin/ReleaseNotes/11.0/ which is an ftp site to download the files).

A major design change at 11.0 and higher is the addition of 64bit support for the kernel and programs. There are major enhancements to networking and security, but most important, version 11.0 is supported and you'll find a lot of free software from HP's website (software.hp.com) for 11.0 and higher.
