Hi,

Has anyone heard any new news on the possibility of ssh and ignite working together and possibly disabling telnet? I know the last item I can seem to find is from Feb 2003 saying that HP was looking into allowing for this to be possible? I was just wondering if anyone knows if anything has changed since then?

Tks,
-Ken

I think HP is going to have to change Ignite in order to get it to work with ssh. I am not aware of any plans to do this.

Telnet is not required.

The Berkley r services are required.

NFS is not required.

Another enhancement would be being able to download off CIFS/9000:Samba shares instead of NFS.

SEP

Ken,

I have not tried this, but do the following.

ignite uses rlogin, and other r-services commands.

temporarily mov the rlogin file somewhere else and create a softlink of the new rlogin to slogin.

ln -s <PATH_TO_SLOGIN> rlogin

let me know how it works. I am on the road and did not get a chance to mess with this. would like to know how it works.

do the same for rcp, etc....
this should fool ignite server that it is using r-services.

peace
Donny</PATH_TO_SLOGIN>

Ken,

Actually you can turn off r-commands and still use ignite. BUT NFS is required. You cannot get around with it. Run '/opt/ignite/bin/add_new_client' command on the client after giving proper NFS permissions on the ignite server.

Use make_net_recovery on the client side to take backup instead from the ignite server.

Look man pages for more information.

-Sri
