Hi Rui,

We ran into the same problem.
This was a suggested solution, but I don't remember what happened. It was a test lab system.

# cd /etc/
# cp lvmtab lvtab.backup
# rm /etc/lvmtab
# vgscan -v

Eileen

Greetings,

I want to create bootable tapes of my servers..

I have already created successfully 2 of them with the following command:

# make_recovery -AvCi -d /dev/rmt/0mn

The command is failing on the third one.
I have already used a new DDS tape and a cleaning cartridge:

Note: the machine is running MC-SG therefore not all VG are active.

# make_recovery -AvCi -d /dev/rmt/0mn
NOTE: make_recovery(103): The make_recovery command will be replaced by
make_tape_recovery. Both commands are supported in this
release (Ignite-UX Revision 3.2). Please read the man page
make_tape_recovery(1M) for usage of the new command. In a
future release, make_recovery will be replaced by a script
that calls make_tape_recovery.
Option -A specified. Entire Core Volume Group/disk will be backed up.
NOTE:    vgdisplay -v unsuccessful
NOTE:    vgdisplay -v unsuccessful
NOTE:    vgdisplay -v unsuccessful
NOTE:    vgdisplay -v unsuccessful

***************************************
HP-UX System Recovery
Validating append file
Done

File Systems on Core OS Disks/Volume Groups:

vg name = vg00
pv_name =  /dev/dsk/c0t3d0
pv_name =  /dev/dsk/c0t4d0
pv_name =  /dev/dsk/c0t6d0

vg00       /dev/vg00/lvol3        /
vg00       /dev/vg00/lvol4        /opt
vg00       /dev/vg00/lvol1        /stand
vg00       /dev/vg00/lvol5        /tmp
vg00       /dev/vg00/lvol6        /usr
vg00       /dev/vg00/lvol7        /var

Create mount points
/krb5
/etc/opt/dce
/var/opt/dce
/var/opt/B21s
/opt/B21s
/usrapp
/opt/oracleapp
/opt/Yog
/opt/nap8.1
/OVapp

/opt is a mounted directory
It is in the Core Volume Group
Mounted at /dev/vg00/lvol4

/var is a mounted directory
It is in the Core Volume Group
Mounted at /dev/vg00/lvol7

Destination = /dev/rmt/0mn
Boot LIF location = /var/tmp/uxinstlf.recovery

***************************************
Creating the configuration file.
Done
Modifying the configuration file.
Done
Backing up vg configurations
Volume Group vg00
make_recovery(482): Call to system failed. errno=0
Cleanup

Any help/suggestion is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Kind Regards,

Rui.
