      <description>Hi All!&lt;BR /&gt; I'm trying to make a make_recovery tape but I got the error below:&lt;BR /&gt;vsurjux1@root:/ #make_recovery -A -C -d /dev/rmt/2m&lt;BR /&gt;      Option -A specified. Entire Core Volume Group/disk will be backed up.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;      ***************************************&lt;BR /&gt;       HP-UX System Recovery&lt;BR /&gt;       Going to create the tape.&lt;BR /&gt;make_recovery(472): /usr/bin/dd failed,res=512,errno=9&lt;BR /&gt;        Cleanup&lt;BR /&gt;vsurjux1@root:/ #&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Anyone can help me?&lt;BR /&gt;Thanx.</description>

      <description>Hi,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;did you clean your tape drive and try again with new tape ?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Most of the times this is a solution.&lt;BR /&gt;Also could be a defect tape drive !&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;C.</description>

      <description>Hi!&lt;BR /&gt; before your answers I got solutions searching here.&lt;BR /&gt;The tape was demaged. but the interesting was it was ok to work with tar or cpio. Only with make_recovery it got error.&lt;BR /&gt;Thanx.</description>

      <description>make_recovery uses "pax", which you can do a "man pax" for more info. It creates a tar or cpio type tape. The issue with the bad tape is because the first FILE (archive if you want to call it that) is a BOOTABLE file that needs to be perfect, it can't handle IO errors of any type, whereas tar and cpio can adjust to some tape errors and continue.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;live free or die&lt;BR /&gt;harry</description>

      <description>Hi Claudio:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Just an addition - The make_recovery has been replaced with the new utility make_tape_recovery. Update your system with the latest patches and you will be able to use this utility. This has more flexibility and options to use with. &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;HTH,&lt;BR /&gt;Shiju</description>
