Well I got it working. I was using the 'Easy Setup' version of 11.0, as soon as I installed the regular version of 11.0 it started working. I have no idea what they changed in the 'Easy Setup' version to make DHCP not work and right now I have no desire to find out.

Kent

First off I'm relatively new to HPUX. I'm trying to build a Ignite Server
here at work, I can get it to work when I use Static IP Addresses but
everytime I try to use the built in DHCP server the client always times
out. As far as I can tell the setup in SAM and Ignite look correct for
this. I've read the Ignite and DHCP documentation at docs.hp.com with no
luck. I've searched Usenet and the HP Forums for an answer with no luck.
The only error I get says "...Hostname or IP Address not found.." but when
I check my dhcptab file they are both listed there. I suspect there's an
easy answer, please help.

Kent
Hi

DHCP_ENABLE=1 in /etc/rc.config.d/netconf file

As long as the DHCP server is configured properly; all you should need to do
on the client side of things is set the DHCP switch to 1 and comment
out the static address (in netconf).

Check and reply

Regards

Steve

More newbie questions. Won't Changing the above on my Ignite/Server force it to look for a DHCP address or is the change you suggested for the DHCP clients? Maybe I should clarify, I'm booting a client off the Ignite server for an install. I am trying to get Ignite to assign DHCP addresses to the clients during the install process.

Kent

Here's the answer to both posts:

1. Yes, I'm trying to get my Ignite Server to also act as a DHCP server.

2. Yes, I have read both the Ignite and DHCP documentation at docs.hp.com. As a matter of fact I've read and followed them at least 5 times now.

Kent
