Hi Steven:

The only patch I know of is/was a 'pax' patch for sparse files and 10.20 systems.

The nice thing about the current versions of Ignite, though, is that it checks to see if you have the level of 'pax' patch support needed when you do a 'make_tape_recovery'.

For 10.20 the patch was:

10.20: PHKL_16750 (S700) or PHKL_16751 (S800).

Regards!

...JRF...

Ignite Help

I have read some postings about ignite and make_recovery. Still not sure if I get there and hope you guru may help:

I have 10.20 and going to 11 (32bit or 64bit). I would need a make_recovery to back me up so that I can go back if upgrade fails. So I need one ignite for 10.20, and next for 11.

Then questions:
-- which one to download? (A, or B)
-- can that be downloaded by windows platform first (firewall issue)?
-- does install just like swinstall sth...?

Thanks in advance,

Steven

Hi Steven
You need A for 10.20 your current OS. Then you need B for 11.00 your next OS.
Yes you can download on windows. Then ftp to unix, use binary transfer mode. If it is ignite_10.20.tar format then
#swinstall -s ignite_10.20.tar
If it is name.tar.gz then
#gunzip name.tar.gz
then
#swinstall -s ignite_10.20.tar

If you have application CD for 10.20 use that

Once your install is done. run make_tape_recovery to create the recovery tape.

Sachin

You can dowload Ignite/UX from http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/download.html

The 'A' version will be installed with 10.20. The 'B' version will be for 11.0. You can download it to a PC first, just be sure to ftp it to hpux box in bin mode. Do not extract tar file, use swinstall to install it.

Install instructions are also available on the Download page.

Hope this helps
-denver

Hi Steven:

Since you want to create a 'make_recovery_tape' before (on 10.20) and after on (11.x), I'd download and install the "A" version on 10.20 and then the "B" version when you want to backup 11.x.

Yes, you can download and save the software 'tar' on a Windows PC. I do that everytime for reason of firewall issues. ftp in binary mode to your HP server and use 'swinstall' to install.

The installation of Ignite does *not* require a reboot; man pages are installed with the software, and you will be up and running in just a few minutes.

...JRF...

Because of Internet problem, I was not able to assign points until today.

Also, would anyone knows any latest patch needed before the ignite software installed?

I don't do many patches for all reason. Just to be precausion.

Any idea to use ignite to backup all other pvg?

Thansk,

Steven
