the boot directive
"boot lan install" sends a
bootp (UDP) broadcast request for boot services to port 1067. Part of that request includes the LLA of the requesting client. Any Ignite server (listening on port 1067 with instl_bootd) on the same subnet, that either has a specific mapping of the lla->IP in /etc/opt/ignite/instl_boottab or has instl_boottab configured for anonymous requests, will respond to the client with a bootp packet containing networking info for the client to use. If there are multiple Ignite servers configured that can respond, the first one that sends a response wins.

If the directive
"boot lan.1.2.3.4 install" is
used then the bootp (UDP) request is directed at a particular host that may or maynot respond.

Hi,

I'd like to know how a client gets an IP address from its Ignite Server.
If I have two Ignite Serves on the same subnet and I run boot "lan install", how does the client get its IP address??.

Thanks in advance,

Alex.
Hi Alex,

The ignite server acts as a DHCP server and allots the client an IP from the pool of IP's configured on the Ignite server.

So the IP to the client will be alloted by the server which answers the request from this client.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Hi Alex,

Are you asking a question. I didn't get it.

If you want from a specific ignite server, boot your client using this command after interrupting the boot process.

bo lan.a.b.c.d INSTALL

here a.b.c.d is the ip address of the ignite server you want to boot from. Is this what you are looking for.

Hope this helps.

thanks
